Typically, ideal weight is determined by a body mass index (BMI), but BMI does not give a complete picture of a person’s health and the factors that influence it. How to use body composition measurement for lifestyle change

It is worth paying particular attention to these values when making a lifestyle change:

 

Total score

The report gives your InBody score on a scale of 1-100. Your score describes the structure and strength of your body. The score is influenced by muscle and fat mass in relation to your target values. The stronger and more balanced your body composition, the higher your score. A normal range is considered to be between 70 and 90.

 

Body composition

This section of the My Body report tells you exactly what your measured weight consists of. In addition to your total weight, you’ll find out how much muscle and fat mass your body has and how they’re distributed, harmful visceral fat, as well as water, protein and minerals.

 

Muscle-fat diagnosis

Muscle fat diagnosis is a good measure for monitoring changes in body composition. In addition to weight, you can see the amount of muscle and fat mass in kilograms. You can also see how much the result differs from normal.

 

Visceral fat

Visceral fat (better known as visceral fat) refers to the amount of fat accumulated around the internal organs. Visceral fat is one of the best lifestyle variables and the most important health outcome to monitor in the report. High visceral fat is associated with diabetes, metabolic syndrome and many other lifestyle diseases. A healthy limit is defined as less than 100cm2.

 

Body fat percentage and BMI/FMI

The fat percentage tells you what percentage of your body weight is fat. The target is 10-20% for men and 18-28% for women. BMI gives an overview of body weight in relation to height and helps to assess whether a person is underweight, normal weight or overweight. The FMI, on the other hand, gives a more accurate measure of body fat mass in relation to height, which gives a better picture of actual body composition. The FMI is particularly useful because it distinguishes between fat and muscle, making it better suited to assessing health, especially in people with high muscle mass or low fat mass.

 

Segmental fat diagnosis

A segmental fat diagnosis tells you how fat is distributed in different parts of your body.

 

Waist-to-hip ratio

The waist-to-hip ratio compares the waist circumference to the hip circumference. A high figure is a clear indication of excess fat accumulation around the abdomen. Excess fat is always a health risk, and mid-body obesity in particular increases the risk of a wide range of diseases.

 

Printing target

The weight target section shows the meter’s suggestion for changing weight, fat and muscle. The ideal weight for the weight target is the midpoint of the normal range of the body mass index. If you are within 0-5 kg of your ideal weight, you can consider yourself to be at a normal weight. However, we believe that more important measures of your health than weight include the amount of visceral fat, the amount of muscle mass and fat mass and their distribution in the body.

 

Body type

Body type describes the structure of the body in terms of body mass index and fat percentage. These two variables can be used to identify different profiles in body composition. The thresholds remain the same throughout adulthood, which is a good thing to bear in mind for older people.

 

Body phase angle

The phase angle tells you about the health and nutritional status of your cells. A low phase angle is a sign of impaired cell structure, e.g. due to malnutrition or inflammation. This variable is used in particular in hospitals to monitor general health and to verify the effectiveness of nutritional therapy and treatments. The normal phase angle of a healthy person is influenced by several factors, including size, sex and age. Scores above 5 on the InBody measure are normal regardless of background factors.

 

Calorie consumption in sport

Caloric expenditure in physical activity tells you how much energy a person of your size consumes in different types of physical activity during a half-hour period. The values can be used as a reference for planning energy intake or for assessing the weight loss goal and the impact of exercise and nutrition in achieving it.
